The Definitive Notts County
A statistical history of England's oldest League football club, with match by match statistics, player details, and a comprehensive encyclopaedia of facts and figures.

The Legends of Notts County
From its humble beginnings in 1862 to the darkest days of administration and near-closure in 2003, Notts County Football Club has provided more than just a passing interest for generations of supporters. For many, it has been a way of life. To trace the Notts County story is to mirror the entire history of our national game. Proud to be the 'oldest Football League Club', the Magpies have experienced more ups and downs than any other club. At first glance the name of Notts County might not readily be found upon the roll of honour for past winners of the FA Cup - but they're there - after a 4-1 success over Bolton Wanderers in the 1894 Final. Jimmy Logan scored a hat-trick on that famous day, beginning a long line of legends that have worn the famous black and white. Many regard Tommy Lawton as the club's finest-ever player, but the likes of Les Bradd, Brian Stubbs, Don Masson, Aubrey Southwell and Dean Yates would all canvass similar support. They all feature in The Legends of Notts County alongside Albert Iremonger, who made more than 500 appearances for the Magpies, and Charlie Palmer, scorer of 'that goal' against their city rivals. Many of those involved in the five visits to Wembley tell the stories of their own 'Big Day Out' and we pay tribute to some of the managers who've helped to keep this famous club on the map.
